OK, I just recieved a 14" 700 and for some reason 9.2.1. won't install on it (Tells me that it can't install on this computer). Was this when they started disabling os9 startup? The firmware on the CD doesn't apply to the 700. SOooo... am I not able to use classic or WHAT? Any ideas ... thanks... I searched for info, but I must be not looking for the right thing.

Any Mac can have OS9 installed for Classic. It's just that newer Macs can't boot into OS9.

What do you mean by, "The firmware on the CD doesn't apply to the 700"? Are you using a regular OS9 CD? The CD that came with the iBook?

No... I have OS 9.2.1 full install disk that I bought... I was able to use it on my last iBook (a 600) and I was able to use the exact same disk (different copy) on my iMac... But the disk tells me that "This program can not run on this computer". Then I have to quit the OS9 Installer (this is from booting from the OS9 disk)....

It sounds like your install disk is older than your iBook. It can't support computers that didn't exist at the time it was created.

You need to use the system CDs that came with your iBook. 9.2.1 is too old for the 700 iBook, I think it must be at least 9.2.2.

There is a disk image of OS 9 hidden on the system restore disks that came with your iBook. When you burnt that image to a CD, you can use that to boot and install a full OS 9. It should work fine with your 700 iBook, I have an 800 and I installed OS 9 that way.

Stink different.
