macxtal is somewhat right...posters here are not generally going to be patting Apple on the back, saying "Nice job!" This is a forum under the heading, "Troubleshooting and Discussion", not "Kudos and Congratulations to Apple".

So your assessment that "enough posters on here..." seems uniformed (not ignorant).

I'll give you this: the 15" I have typing over Airport, cool to the touch, clear screen, lit-keyboard, running silent on 2+ hours, is a work of art. I would reconsider purchasing, because at this point, if Apple had a major problem, they'd either issue a recall, or have the issues hammered out by now, representing a relatively low risk to you. If I'm wrong, here, let me eat virtual crow right here on the boards.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some work to do...

Good luck.

Hmmmm. . . your opinion, but since I have a shred of self-esteem, forgive me if I disagree.

Okay, maybe the figure isn't 40 percent, but there are enough posters on here with problems to give me credible pause. I've been reading these forums a long time, and when, say, the original iBooks came out, no LCD problems were reported. It's obvious Sakino ain't the only one with a problem.

I think my decision was an intelligent one, based on what I'm reading in here and in various other online forums. Odds may have been in my favor that I would have received a perfect model, but with enough rumblings out there from plenty of various sources about white spots, and the difficulty of returning BTO models, I don't think the odds are to the point where I'm comfortable with them. How can you call my decision ignorant, aside from gratuitous name-calling?

I'm having a couple problems with my powerbook.

My 5400 hard drive has a high pitched squeak when writing, I have had 6 kernal panics in three days, and I have to pay $129 for panther.

I'm pissed. I'm a lifetime mac user, and I'm thinking of returning this machine.

So your PowerBook is defective, get it replaced/fixed. You don't have to pay $129 for Panther, go plug your serial number in on the website.

Actually, I did put my serial number in, and since Ibought BTO, it doesn't recognize my number. I've got some other troubleshoting to do, before I'm sure it's the machine, but if I have to send it back, I'm sure I'll get Panther out of the deal.
