I've never owned a Powerbook before and was just wondering if both RAM slots are user accessible? I'm asking because I read somewhere on here that someone was having to send their powerbook to apple to change the RAM in the one slot.

When I get my powerbook i'll have 2 256 RAM, can I replace both of these myself with 2 512 RAM?

Both the 15" and 17" PBs have 2 user-accessible RAM slots. The 12" PB has 256 built-in and ONE user-accessible RAM slot.

And yes, you can do that.

Yep! And you could order it w/ 1x512MB SODIMM, so you'd just hafta buy 1x512MB to pop in once it arrived and have no leftovers.

This wouldn't be possible on the 12" PB correct?

If I put the 256 SODIMM's on Ebay do you think they will sell? Do they work in pc laptops?

I couldn't afford 1 512 SODIMM, i'll just have to buy 1 512 SODIMM and make do with 768 for now, which is probably enough anyway.

It works out cheaper than getting 1 512 SODIMM and i'll have 786 Apple charges *way* too much for ram

It's not possible w/ the 12" PB...the Rev. B's have 256MB built-in and a single user-accesible slot, so you can either put a 256MB stick in, a 512MB stick in, or a very expensive 1GIG stick in in addition to the 256MB built-in.

And the 2x256MB sticks won't yeild much at all on eBay (And yea. they work in PC laptops too)...RAM sells for pretty cheap on eBay, so I'd HIGHLY recommend opting to get the 1x512MB BTO option if there's anyway possible and just buy another 512MB stick to add in. If not, 768MB is definitely usable, that's what I've got in my 12" PB and OS X runs wonderfully.
