Okay, I'm going to try and make this specific. Money is an issue with me, so I'm wondering if I should buy a refurb. 12" 867 from Apple for $1200 vs. the $1600 for the 12" 1Ghz. My main concern is the heat...the speed does not really matter for what I use a computer for (internet, Email, burning CDs, storing photos, etc.). So, what's your opinion? Is the heat on the old 12-inchers worth $400 to a budget conscious person? Is the heat REALLY a problem more than an annoyance? Thanks.

Probably. The heat on my 867 mhz 12 inch doesn't bother me in the slighest really...although I have noticed a very small amount of warping, but it's not easily noticed...it doesn't bother me when I type or anything.
I kinda don't really understand why so many people have such an issue with the heat...I live in Aus and even on a 34 Degrees (celcius)day it doesn't get unbearable, but that's just my personal opinion...and maybe mine doesn't get as hot as some others'
If you run the cpu at reduced speed (off the battery) it doesn't get very hot at all...warm but not hot.
Altough the extra L2 chache,133 mzh and 256 mb of ram on the mobo would be nice..I'd say the Rev A would probably be worth it to save $400 (is that USD?)

My previous 12" got warm, but not annoying hot.
I never thought about it.
If you don't care about speed, then I would save the 400$ and buy the 867mhz one.
It's a damn cool machine.

Might be just me, but plugging away on my new 12" 1G, it certainly feels faster than the floor model which was a 867 running the same amount of memory (256MB). I'm still waiting for delivery of my 512MB SO-DIMM, but even without it, this machine feels plenty fast.
As far as I can tell, this machine definitely stays cooler than the original which really bothered me (enough that I was considering NOT getting one).
Cheers.

I'm currently running a Sony Vaio that gets annoyingly warm, but nothing like the Rev A Powerbook, which I tried out in the store and was suprised at how hot it got (but, to be fair, it was plugged in all day, used constantly, etc.). I'm worried that heat would shorten the laptop's life, not just make my legs hot and hands sweat, like my Vaio. I'm seriously considering the new 12" Rev B over the refurbished Rev A because Apple seems to have solved the heat issue and apps run a good deal faster, which will be nice for video editing. Also the new 12" PB has the DVI out, for hooking up a bigger monitor, and again very nice for video editing. Heat, DVI, and the faster processor are worth the 400 bucks for me.
