Hi everyone, I am in the market for a new mac I am considering a 1.8 G5 or a 15" PB.
I do use Final cut express a little, and it won't import video without dropped frames to an external firewire 80gig 7200rpm on 400mhz G4, with the drive installed internally there is no problem.
Now, will the 15" PB handle video to its internal drive or will I have to cto a 5400rpm drive and will a 5400 rpm drive cope?
Or will a FW 800 external drive cope with no dropped frames.
If it can't then I will buy the G5, but I would prefer a PB if it can handle FCE with no droped frames.
Any replies appreciated.

I've used FCP on a TiBook for a couple of years. If anything the drive is slower than the one in the new 15" PB. I've not had any problems with dropped frames going to the internal drive.

You shouldn't be getting dropped frames when capturing to a firewire drive.

I've imported and edited a couple hundred hours of footage on my RevA TiBook (though I used iMovie, just bought FCexpress with my new ALbook). I've imported video to the internal drive as well as to an external firewire drive (60 min of video consecutively) without any dropped frames. My firewire drive is from OWC which uses the Oxford 911 chipset - could drives using slower chipsets drop frames? You shouldn't experience any dropped frames importing to either device. The 4200 rpm drive is fast enough for importing video. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.
I am using Canon video cameras perhaps these are causing problems with dropped frames to an external FW drive. The FW case is a Sarotech.
I think I will buy the 15" if a 4200rpm drive will handle importing video.
Thanks again.
