Hello
As a PC user, and new to this forum, I´m into switching to to the mac os platform..
Have been waiting for the aluminium PB15 and ordered it on the Paris expo day. Unfortunaly there are delivery problems in Sweden, but the retailer has the new 17PB available for delivery.
That set me into a position, where I can´t decide wheter to wait for the middle one or grab the 17 inch tomorrow.
I´m into medical surgery, so my main purpose is picture handling (photoshop), internet, email, writing, presentations (powerpoint and keynote), and some video editing for recrational use. I´m going to use the computer at home and on a daily basis on my work. In other words, going to grab my computer for work in the mornings and use it at home at the evenings.
Please help me with this decision.

Best regards Mans Jungner DDS

I was also a PC (Unix) user who recently switched. My choice was the 15".

My reasoning was - I can always attach a larger monitor to the 15" if I need more screen space, and the 15" is a more carryable. Even if I didn't move it around as much as I do, I'd probably have gone with the 15" anyway since I have a lot on my desk and space is precious. =)

Either way, they're both fabulous machines - you can't go wrong whatever you decide. The 17 has a bit more power, the 15 is a bit more portable. Which is right for you is up to you!

I guess that's not much help. Hehe.

i got the 17" and im glad i didn't get the 15 because i love this thing to death.

if youre planning on having a true mobile computer taking it to and from work, to the coffeeshop (i know you got those 'good' ones in sweden) to the library, showing if off at the hardware store, to the park, etc etc, go with the 15 because hauling the 17 all over the place wouldn't be fun.

if you see yourself taking it to and from work only, then it isn't too bad, considering the fact that it will only be used on your work desk and at home. its a bit more practical under those circumstances

the 17" screen is spectacowackoular and this machine is plenty fast even with the stock 512 ram. i love this big hunk of aluminum. im primarily using this as my home desktop replacement

17" all the way. If you 'need' portability, then go with the 12".

This guy is wise beyond his posts.. Get the 17" for power and desktop space.. If your prime consideration is portability get the 12"

15" is the perfect balance between portability and performance...

as for the 12" just remember the screen is much lower quality than the other Powerbooks

You can't go wrong either way. The 15" is a nice compromise. You might have to see the two to judge. If you like them both equally--portability vs. screen size--then maybe price should break the tie.

I fretted over this decision more than I would like to admit to and went with the 17. I have had a 15" TiBook for over 2 years, loved it, but wanted to move up a notch. The slight size increase is okay with me for the way I use it and that, of course is key to your decision. Lets face it though, if you are sitting at a computer, any computer, you are not moving around a lot. The 17 is l u x u r y.

I'm also trying to decide...
Went to the apple store in santa monica and compared the 15 and 17 screens side-by-side w/coupla employees and the 15 was brighter but the colors were more vivid (at all brightness levels) and contrast was noticably higher on 17. Did the same, some time before at the Emeryville store and found again 15 to be brighter and 17 had more vivid colors but no one brought up contrast. Of course we all made sure all the creen settings were the same.

I can get them at edu. prices and the 1.25 comes w/free applecare. But they only sell stock machines, so i will have to throw out the 2 x 256 ram on the 1.25. Sooo the 17 is $300 more not including the free applecare ($240) for the 1.25/15".

hmmmm?

I you're not dragging it around. Stick with the 17" - you won't regret it.
