I perordered my 17 way back right after the keynote, so I've had it for a while. It is also my work and play machine so i've had it on minimum 10 hrs every day sice iI've gotten it, and I take it back anf forth to work every day. So needless to say, it's seen some use.

I've had no problems whatsoever, until, just mayeb the last two weeks or so, one of the fans, I'm thinking the graphics card fan, is starting to sound like it has a bearing going. You can defintely hear it when it spins down, like a "tic-tic-tic..." until it stops then there's silence. It's coming from the upper left corner of the keyboard. No, this isn't the "sizzle", that I can barely hear and I think is blown way out of proportion, and its not the normal system fan that you can hear when you throw your ear up against it.

Anyone else had a similar problem with the Albooks? I find i can get it to stop simply by, get this, blowing down through the cooling vent under the screen. She just needs a little help, you know?

Just throwing this out there to see if I'm alone or not. The computer is still fine and the fan is defintely still cooling, if it gets worse I'll be at the Apple store.

My PB17"1.33 had a noisy fan (LF) until I installed 10.2.8 the first time.

It is now more quiet..Don't know why but I'm content.

I had a problem where a fan would make a buzzing sound when at full speed (which took running Folding@Home for two hours to get it that hot). I sent it to Apple for repair and got it back a few days later. Problem fixed. The invoice said they replaced the heat sink assembly and the battery. Not sure why the replaced the battery, but I sure ain't complaining.

Looks like these things DO have a lifespan, that interesting that yours starting doing it about the same time as me.

Let me know if you take it in and what they say, I'd like to do that with mine but I need this machine for work.
