well, as a switcher, I had higher expectations than this.
After waiting patiently and getting the run around for days on when I'd get my new powerbook (was it in taiwan? was it at customs? was it in chicago?), I finally got it and low ande behold - the infamous white spots! They seemed to get more severe so I called Apple Care and arranged for a repair. I got my padded box to send to the repair center late but ok, I was told there was a slim chance I'd get my powerbook back by today. So I check the repair status yesterday and sweet!, it says it was shipped out last night...
Or so they claim. Now they're telling me that a tracking number was never generated and they have NO IDEA where it is. Airborne has NO IDEA where it is although they say that positively no package is in transport from apple to me. So, I have to wait until Monday to find out where it is. But the Apple care representative said "it doesn't look good."
So what's the best case scenario? I get a new replacement from Taiwan two freaking weeks from now with the same defect in the LCD?
Thanks Apple. Nice intentions and nice enough customer support but WHOLEHEARTEDLY INCOMPETENT.

When you buy a product at it's launch, you get a higher defect rate, every manufacturing company deals with this, the first few models have a higher tendency for defect, the best testers are customers, millions of them. Apple will make changes to its supply chain to eliminate or reduce these white spots, and airborne sucks, but this should not affect your opinion of apple, just a combination of your luck and an increased rate of failure in new products.
I was the same as you and this powerbook has met every single one of my expectations. Mine was perfect, and i ordered it at 6am the morning they were announced

Oh- move on! You're getting a new computer. Why do people bitch so much about this stuff?
I guess I'm just gettung a little tired of seeing the negstive messages, but once they are resolved- there is no further communication.
Your computer will be there. Sooner than you think. Just let us know- so we can experience the happy moments too.

Well when you have high expectations and are overly anxious to receive the perfect laptop that you paid good money for, only to find out it's not what you were waiting for and that it takes over 2 weeks to receive, I would believe that would be reason enough to complain. Easy for you to say just ""move-on". Although it has not happened to me, I can understand all the frustrating posts.

Maybe I've just been really lucky, but I've been an early adopter two times with Apple and have never received a lemon. That said, I opted for BTO both times (maybe quality control is better with BTO??). I've also done the applecare repair thing 3 times and Airborne has turned around the shipping VERY fast each time.
Still...I know exactly how you feel cing2x, and it blows. Someone screwed up and you have to wait because of it Apple will take care of you...just be patient and polite to anyone you talk to. You're so going to love being a powerbook owner

I didn't mean for that to sound as harsh as it did. Believe me- I do feel the frustration. Waiting 3 moths for my 17" certainly had me sending a few nasty words Apple's way.
All I'm saying is that the second something starts to go awry, people jump on and trash Apple. But then when things get cleared up, They don't say anything further.
I wish you luck when your new pb does arrive cing2x. You will love it I'm sure and all this heartache will be behind you.

Why not just put up with the white spots for 6 months and then send it back to Apple and get a new one with all the kinks and stuff worked out?

if it's working, why should i say something further? when i order a new computer, I expect that everything should be perfect. apple's whole advertising strategy is that unlike PCs, using a Mac is easy and fun and just works.
More likely than not, I will love my powerbook. She already began to grow on me the few days that I was using her. I didn't mean to trash Apple but then again, why me???
Edit - the dock on my iPod came broken too. nothing major but the line-out doesn't work.
I swear I'm not some tech-hypochondriac. I guess I just have the worst luck.
