Okay, I have this problem that every time a new model comes out I get computer envy. And then I scour the message boards only to make my compulsive behavior worse. I have a 12" Powerbook Rev. A and up till a couple days ago, loved it. Yes, it does get warm, but no different than my 14" iBook 800 Mhz did. The constant search for the "next best thing" is a sickness. I'm tired of hearing about how great the Rev. B is! It's cooler. It boots up 4.2 seconds faster. It's screen is sharper...and on and on. So before I run out on the street and sell my barely used PB for way too low of a price, why don't we share some stories about how great the Rev A is? Let's hear from the people who don't have problems with the heat, warping or fuzzy screen. Let's give this computer the credit it deserves! Maybe someone even knows of an advantage it has over the Rev. B. Because the Rev. A is a damn fine machine, and I want to cure myself of this addiction to always upgrade. And don't worry new PB 12" Rev. B owners, we'll still know that your computer is better.

The rev. a is a super computer. Its a marvel of technology and I love it. I have had no problems with heat or warping or any of the other reported issues.
I have no intention of upgrading to the 12" rev. b.
Instead I'm upgrading to the 15 Al
Yeah! Out with the old in with the 1.25, 80 gig, 2x SuperDrive woohoo!

Ummmm... The SD in the old 12" can be 2x. (mine is ;-) ).
You can also install a new HD in the 12".
Then you would only be upgrading for screen size, light up keyboard, better grafic card, DVI out, and a slightly faster cpu.
Look if you upgrade now... Then you will probably go for the next upgrade, which makes you new machine old. Why not wait a year?
(If any of these comments didn't make scene its because i got like 2 hours of sleep ;-) )

Slightly faster cpu? How about significantly faster. I already ordered and I'm looking forward to the new PB. But, again, the 12" is a great laptop. If you want a great computer with max portability the 12 is tough to beat.
It feels like I'm waiting a year cause of Airborne express .

Your kidding right? Try doing photoshop work. When I edit RAW in Photoshop, my computer gets up there in temp. (hot enough to fry an egg, no lie)
Download temp monitor and tell me what your temp is when editing video or photos (30MB files). (ive hit 153 degrees when batch editing RAW files in Photoshop)

That's why I had no interest in Rev A 12-incher. Rev B is great though. I've been playing with mine (SD, 768MB RAM) for two days, no heat issue, completely silent, fast, simply perfect. Trackpad is a bit scratchy and I still like my TI keyboard better, but 12-incher is for my better half anyway

good point slider!
Rev A -> original
Rev B -> Rev A to make it simple
Anyway I'm really happy with our new 12-incher, no complaints.

I love my Rev A 12, great little machine, though mine is pretty heavily modified. Recently I modded the heat pipe/spreader system and mine doesn't get nearly as hot anymore. Also I've noticed that it stays cooler since I went from 640 to 1152MB. I figure it's because I'm not using nearly as much virtual memory in PS and InDesign as I used to. Those apps are noticeably "snappier" ( ) since the upgrade.
Anyhow, I'm just gonna swap in a Rev C or D logic board when they're available and change the bottom case, basically I'm waiting for an ATI based GPU. Much cheaper than getting a whole new machine.

hi bluethefish,
I think, the only thing to cure yourself from apple-mania is to avoid surfing forums like this one and to avoid any apple related sites for a while (try slashdot or o reilly network instead and see how big the world can be).
I found out that buying used powerbooks has severe advantages: most of the time you get machines that have been the second or third notebook and thus haven't been used much.
So my impression is, people buy macs because they want these shiny things. My advice is to find something to do for your powerbook and explore the real advantages and the power of this shiny thing. Move your interests from following the latest cough of Steve Jobs to developing the next killer app, produce the best video or build a robot that can walk with the help of a program that runs on your powerbook (just a quick idea).
I moved my java developers work to my Pismo some years ago. It was wayyyy better to work on than on the Dell crap I used before. And as I saw the Pismo won't do the job any longer (performance) it was really hard to give it away. And placing it near a TiBook didn't produce any "must have".
