Hi,

Just wondering, does anyone know whether a Firewire 800 --> 400 adapter exists?

Just so that I can use 2 Firewire 400 peripherals via both of the Firewire ports on the PowerBook G4 15" at the same time. Assuming no daisy chaining.

If such an adapter exists, anyone know where I can get one?

Thanks.

I went to Apple Keystone today to try and pick one up, and they don't carry it. I did find this on Buy.com though

Hope that helps.

Thank you so much for this bit of information and link. I have been looking for a product like this since I ordered my new 15... now all I have to do is wait until my new Mac and adapter arrive to use my iPod and iSight simultaneously. Thanks, tikki!

Didn't the 17' AlBook come with one before? Is that no longer the case with the new 15"/17"?

You'd think Apple would sell one if not include it. Dual Firewire 400 is important sometimes.

No, Apple never included one. SJ just said "there is this adapter" during the intro.

Thanks for the buy.com link. The original maker being Sonnet, I found this:

http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fw_adapter.html

Funny how Sonnet seems to sell it as an alternative to buying Firewire 800 cables (just use your FW 400 cables!)

I suppose, if someone uses a original Firewire 400 cable, and puts this adapter on both ends, is this cable capable of transmitting data at the same speed as an actual FW800 cable?

I think this is interesting....

I don't think so. The Sonnet web page (http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fw_adapter.html) specifically says this adapter lets you connect Firewire 400 devices to Firewire 800 ports. Besides, wouldn't an actual Firewire 800 cable be cheaper?
