Can we dedicate this topic to discussing any technical issues surrounding the Rev. B 17" PowerBook? Which issues (if any) have experienced and how have you solved them?

Just so no one thinks that th 17" is full of problems and hesitates to buy one, I would just like to say mine's perfect

Now, that doesn't mean there are problems with other machines.
Dual 500 G4 :: 576mb :: 180gb (120+40+20)
17" PB G4 1.33 gHz :: 1gb :: 80 gb @ 5400rpm

Mine is nearly perfect, except, CDRs don't always eject properly. They attempt to come out and get stuck and remount. I'm hoping the problem will solve itself and I won't have to send this otherwise perfect machine in for repair.

From the first reviews i´ve seen, it seems like the 1.33 Powerbook runs hotter than the 1.0 version and the fan comes on more frequently. Does anybody have both of them and can give a comparison?

I am a proud owner of a Rev B Powerbook 17' for a week now, and the issues i have with it are :

- sometimes when i write to the hard drive through a network connection a get a high pitch noise. I get the same kind of noise when accessing a https page through safari.

- when plugged in the mains, i get a very light noise coming from the middle of the keyboard, which sounds like a hard drive accessing information. I think it is some kind of static but it is annoying when you can hear it in a very quiet environment. This noise goes away when you unplug the mains.

- my keyboard looks slightly warped on the left hand side.

Otherwise i love it. I get 3 and a half hours battery life, its fast as a rocket compared to my Ti 1ghz with 1g RAM and the screen is fantastic with no dead pixel or white spots.

And its built like a tank.

Happy mac owner over here
