Is the Flat panel on the new 15"
powerbook the same as before or is it a
newer, improved, brigher version ? Has
anyone here used both the previous 15"
and the new 15" powerbooks and directly
compared the two ?

Most people report that a new machine has a brighter LCD, but this can often be put down to the newer one being precisely that - newer. LCDs get dimmer as they get older.

I'm not sure about any differences between the Ti and the 15" Albook so I can't help there.

Exactly, all 2ofme, thanks for bringing this up.

If you don't believe this, compare year old iBooks, PowerBooks, Dulls, to new versions of the same. And if anyone actually dares to say that the newer LCDs are "brighter", I really hope they include the age of the systems that they are directly comparing it to.

And for what it's worth, the 15" Ti PB has the brightest LCD of any laptop I've seen. Not only that, it's also had the greatest longevity. I've used mine day in day out for almost a year (10-15 hrs day) and still rarely need to go past 50% for brightness. I haven't seen or used the 15" Al. I should also mention that I've seen far faster fade rates on the iBook screens.
