I have finally reached the end of my rope on this Apple Mail/modem incompatibility problem. When I cannot upload a 180kb pdf file, this computer is officially dysfunctional. The problem is not my phone line, is not my modem (it's been replaced), it's not my OS (tried OS X 10.2.4 and 10.2.6, twice, after 2 full archive and reinstalls, one from Apple and one from me).

I have also tried to contact Apple thru the boards and reporting emails from their website. I've posted this problem here (twice), and once on the dealmac archives.

Apple has not been willing to even respond.

I have my polite but firm letter for CEO Steve Jobs written, spell-checked, and ready to go. How do I reach him? Anyone have an email or a viable snail mail address?

sjobs@apple.com or steve@mac.com

Despite the fact that everyone will tell you this is pointless, I actually received a reply to an email i sent to one of those addresses about a year ago (I don't remember which it was). I am not joking about this. Now I doubt it was from Steve himself, probably a secretary or something, but the emails that go there do get read.

I also remember a little while back some guy in Britain who was unhappy with international .Mac service emailed Steve and the result was a total revamping of the .Mac department's support for international customers.

Thanks for info! I already tried 'stevejobs@apple.com", but it bounced.

Here's hoping!

sjobs@apple.com is a valid e-mail address. the e-mail i sent to was responded to by someone from "Corporate Executive Relations"

i think i'm going to send a letter via snail mail though, as the person who responded was thoroughly unhelpful.

You can call 1-800-SOS-APPLE but you will be charged for tech support.

Also, Apple does not warrantee any of it's applications or software. So, if it is a software problem then you are out of luck.

I have a 3 year AppleCare plan, I cannot believe they would charge me with reporting a bug. Especially as I reported it initially well within my 90 day initial window.

That route is out anyway. It took several days for them to diagnose a DEAD modem. The standard Apple dialup test site does not allow uploading, as far as I can tell, it just tests the modem's initial handshaking ability.

This problem just seems to be below the threshold of Apple's support queue.

Here's hoping OS X 10.3 fixes the problem, but I am not holding my breath.

So if I send a followup snail mail document, what address should I use?

I used sjobs@apple.com when I reached the end of my tether with an iBook problem a year or two back...

Had it replaced within 24 hours and a gift voucher for the Applestore...

Emailing often does work.

Peace,

I e-mailed him re: the MDD Powersupply fiasco (when shipping replacement PSUs to some UK customers got delayed by months - bit like the current situation with PowerBooks) and got a reply supposedly from him - but more likely one of his 'elves' (a 'Thanks for alerting us to this problem, we're on to it' message) - and my replacement PSU within 2 days of e-mailing him.

I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised when I checked my voicemail and a representative from Apple with a direct line called me yesterday.

I'll let you know whether it helps solve my problem, thanks for the email address.
