Before the abortive 10.2.8 the battery would indicate100% after a full charge, after the update the charge level was about half what it was, after the fix to the update I seem to have recovered some battery life and the inability to get 100% charge.

Now my ibook batter will only reach 75% charge, no matter how long it is left on charge. I have tried reclaibrating the battery a number of times, but to no avail. When it reaches 75% the display changes to Calibrating time till full and stays that way. If I disconnect and connect the charger again it may go to 76%, but again the display changes to Calibrating...

Any advice appreciated

Have you reset the PMU?

I did this ealier on (with the side effect of resetting the clock). More recently I have tried this again, but now it won't reset the clock.

Update. I tried again and succeeded in reseting the PMU, but the battery still only charges to 75%.

Problem sorted. I tried one more time last night and finally succeded in getting a full charge indication in the menu bar. Here is how I did it..

1. Drain battery until ibook sleeps
2. Remove battery
3. Wakeup on AC
4. Shutdown
5. Reset PMU
6. Remove AC
7. Add battery
8. Reset PMU again
9. Removed battery and rebooted using AC
10.<noted that clock had not reset. Worry!>
11.Shutdown
12.Remove AC
13.Replaced battery
14.Connected AC
15.Left shutdown overnight
16.Follwing moring removed AC
17.Rebooted on battery (would not start for a few minutes)
18.Battery now indicates full!!!!!!!

Sorry for the detail, but I don't know which bits were relevant and which bits could be left out. I think the answer may be in ensuring a complete charge while the iBook is shutdown, and that the new boot is what resets the charging scale.

It worked for a couple of days, then after recharging overnight (Friday) it went back to 75%.

I've tried reusing the steps above, but have had no success. So back to square one.

I had the same problem a few months ago with my iBook battery. In fact, every week the charge percentage would diminish. (80%, 73%,...)

After calling AppleCare, they sent me a replacement battery.
