Dead Rev. B 12 inch Powerbook?

I just bought a new Rev. B Powerbook at J and R in New York City. I brought the thing home, plugged it in, turned it on, and OS X began starting. As soon as OS X finished its start-up, but before it went to the Finder, the computer seemed to freeze, and the screen turned a dull bluish-gray. After about a minute I restarted the computer....or at least I tried to. The Powerbook will no longer turn on, plugged in or not, battery in or not. Occasionally it will make some funny noises, as if the hard drive is attempting to start. But generally, pressing the On button does absolutely NOTHING.

I'm assuming I got a lemon. What could be the problem? And is this common with the new Powerbooks?

I dont intend to sound mean but do you think this is common with the new powerbooks? people have been very happy with there systems (me included) and I think this would take away from that.

So no it is not common for

I've lost you here. I got a lemon, and this would take away from your happiness with your functioning Powerbook?

I don't understand this response; it doesn't seem to resolve anything, nor offer anything constructive... I think this user is looking for solutions, such as:

- resetting the power manager (hold power-shift-option (?)) more info can be found in the manual i'm sure, on this exact sequence.

-reset the PRAM, by holding cmd-opt-P-R immediately after restarting, for a total of three chimes.

-have you tried contacting AppleCare (1 800 APL CARE)?

Thanks for the help - I was looking for solutions (or at least suggestions for what might be wrong) but after playing with it for awhile I think I'm just going to return it and get a new one. And by playing with it, I mean: pressing various buttons on a computer that refuses to turn on. I'm glad (perversely) that I bought one at a store rather than getting a BTO, since it's going to be a lot easier to return.

The above poster probably thought I was a Windows Troll...which maybe is reasonable since I'm a new poster, and I guess the 12 inch models have had few problems. As a Mac user since 1986 (a Mac SE, with an external Jasmine 40 MB hard drive that cost $1000), I resent it a little, however.

If anybody is interested....returned my Powerbook to J & R. They officially don't take returns on Apple products (oops...), but after the technician looked at my PB, they changed their mind. I'm loving it - perfect size, nice speed. I'd rather have 80 GB than 40, but hey, I think now I'll wait for 2.5 inch drives to get to 160, and then I'll get one.
