I've ordered a Powerbook but I haven't received shipping confirmation yet and the money hasn't been taken from my visa card... does that mean that I haven't purchased it yet and am entitled to free Panther???

Nope... You'll have to pay full price.

janmc, II would say you'll be fine. Panther will be included with all machines shipped from and around the 24th.

Worst case scenario, you'll have to pay $20 for the CD in shipping costs via the 'Up To Date' program should the CD not be in the box.

Either way, you'll not have to pay anywhere near full price.

Peace,

Marc

Thanks Marc. Not feeling very reassured though because of the other posts.

Just wrote an email to the Apple Store here in Ireland. I will not be happy if I have to pay full price. I know it's not a lot of money, but my order comes to €3000, or $2700, and I don't think it's fair that I have to pay extra for an OS that will be released before I get my Powerbook.

janmc: If you can cancel, you should cancel. If you ordered before today, you won't be able to get the free upgrade. If you really want the free upgrade, you should cancel and reorder today.

I rang the UK Apple Store today and was told that the important date is the 'invoice date'. This is when the PowerBook is dispatched and you are charged, not when you order.

So, if your PB has not been sent yet, you are entitled to the upgrade. I asked for written confirmation of this as I was about to cancel my order and they put a note on my order saying that I had rang on this date and was told that I was entitled to an upgrade. So, if there are any problems..I am ok.

My advice is to ring Apple and get it confirmed yourself.

Good question - do Apple ship Jaguar on all machines until the 24th then switch to Panther? Or will machines with Panther be appearing beforehand?

I have a 15" AlBook due on - wait for it - 24/10, so who knows what I'm going to get?

Best wishes,

Mike.
