here I am broke and waiting for my 15 inch powerbook to get here this afternoon. I recall joining this forum early september and everyone was raving and ranting about the new powerbook. Now its a different story, people want the free update of panther. Will you ever be happy?
I personally care less about the free copy of panther, I ordered my machine way before panther and I do NOT see myself being eligible for getting it free at all! how is it that some people see it differently and go as far as saying "apple sucks, cause I didn't get free panther!"...I mean...come on people! you know who u are!

I personally could careless about getting Panther for free. I think apple has more on their hands then they think. I want my fukn powerbook fixed asap. I swear to go there is a new white spot EVERY WEEK?

Personally this year hasnt been the greatest for apple, I hope the get their **** straight.
Major powerbook delays with the 12 and 17 inch while leaving the 15" lag behind for 9 months. Then to release the 15" powerbook that sucks. (Lucky if you get 2 hour battery life, shitty screens, etc......)

Lets talk about the G5 powermacs? Hmm those were delayed also?

Before apple digs themself any deeper they need to fix some **** up, because things like this make a company look bad.

If they were not giving panther to the nw g5 owners for free there would be no issue

the new PB's came out AFTER the g5's...we have just as much to gain from it as they do, a 17" cost the same as a dual g5...

they are all very similar in price...why the shaft to us?

You got it...

It is the G5 exemption that is the stinger.

The situation is manifestly inequitable while the G5 exemption exists.

Perhabs because the G5 realy shines with Panther, beacuase of some built in stuff that makes the G5 perform way better... where as for a G4 Mac - its more cometics?

that has all yet to be proven about the g5, not that it should be a factor

the functionality changes are beneficial to all

expose is sweet, iChat AV is gonna be great when the rest of my relatives switch (soon I tell yah!), fast user switching is awesome, smoother user interface everyone can use

these are just a few

I am recieving it for free through ADC, this still blows and pisses customers off, treat everyone the same, we spent as much as "they" did

or don't do it at all

When you have been here a bit longer you will see it is part of an endless cycle...

People want new product and whine about it not being made.
Macworld approaches, anticipation hits fever pitch.
People whine about the people speculating.
Product announced and people proclaim it the Best Thing Ever (tm).
Endless shipping threads.
Product ships and there are 'issues'.
Complaint threads begin.
Whining resumes.
Apple pulls upgrade stunt.
Whining intensifies.
People start whining about whiners.
Speculation on new product begins.

The cycle beings again. It has always been this way, and I suspect always will.

However let me put this whole situation a different way:

Person A goes to store on 10th Sept and buys a G5 costing £2500.

Person B goes to the same store and buys a Powerbook on 10th September costing £2500.

So, why does person A get a free copy of Panther when person B does not? I'm damned if I know.

Answers on a post card to...

Peace,

TPC

I'm glad you don't care, cause with this attitude when something happens that effects you, you won't be offended when people post similar responses to your problem.

Because that is what Apple decided. Pretty simple.

Whilst I agree with your reasoning, the possible extra Panther+G5 performance issue doesn't really matter...

Powerbook and other Mac buyer have still been shafted by the G5 exemption.

Who cares how Panther runs on the G5s... That the weakest excuse I've heard yet.

I've had my PB 2 days and spent and much as a G5 owner who has had theirs 2 months.

And they're entitled to newer software because it "runs" better...?

What's next... Apple will stop supporting laptops because their software runs better on the G5s?

Again, I've stated it in other threads regarding this issue... I'm NOT looking for a free lunch. But giving the G5 owners this opportunity and NOT others for NO apprent reason is wrong.

Not even an "upgrade" price... Lame.
