I picked up a new 12" Powerbook this week, and within a few hours of use a white screen popped up informing me I had to restart my computer! (a total crash)

This "white screen of death" kept reappearing randomly, so I had the apple store replace the unit with another brand new 12" PB. Guess what? This morning I was showing off the computer to a Wintel friend of mine, and BAM, white screen of death! Needless to say, I have no idea what is going on. I never saw this "white screen" on my 15"Ti.

The "genius" at the Apple store called the white screen a Kernal Panic.

Anyone elese seen this or have an answer? The apple store has agreed to exchange for a third computer, so if it happens again, I figure I am cursed.

1) do you have any peripherals plugged in?

2) Did you install any RAM that you transfered to the new computer.

3) Does it crash in the same app?

4) It is probably not the computer so save your time returning it.

I should have added that the crash always happens when the computer is being moved, or handed to another person.

I have not installed any ram, nor has the ram been upgraded from stock.

It has crashed when running nothing, and crashed when running Safari and Mail.

If it's not the computer, then what is the problem?

Thanks,

Chris

I had a friend who got crash upon waking. As for myself, I sometimes crash when unplugging usb devices while sleeping. Are you running any additional software? Any haxies? And did you update to 10.2.8?

Of course the thing no one ever wants to think about is an individual who was unfortunate to get two bum machines in a row. But it could happen.

I am running Office for X, MSN messenger, and isync. That's it! Absolutly no haxies, and yes I did update to 10.2.8

I was writing my third paragraph reply to you now when I kernel panicked on my 17"1.33 again. Lost everything. I am going to write and save it in Word, then re-post.

I think for some, that 10.2.8 is a problem still, me included.

You might run fsck -y and repair permissions. If that is unclear and your Apple store is nearby, let them show you once. It's good to know and becoming as important as knowing how to change oil on a car.

I'm calling Apple tomorrow since they said they want it back. Not everyone has consistentency in 10.2.8 . I have panics in 10.2.7 and 10.2.8 randomly, most recently waking from sleep. If they can't fix it, I'm going to buy a different model.
