I just bought my powerbook recently and so far i haven't gotten any problems (fingers crossed). I just wanted to know, the cable you receive to connect your powerbook to the tv, do I need to buy another adapter or something to hook it up to where the cable fits? I can't for the life of me find a cable that will allow me to use my powerbook to play dvd's on my tv. Any sites i can buy from?

It would make sense if you could mention your PBs model, since the 12" has other ports than the 15" and 17"....

what they used to come with was s-video (7 pins) and an s-video to RCA (sometimes just called "video") adapter (the round yellow thing). You still had to buy an RCA cable to go from the adapter to the TV. Some TVs, though, don't even have RCA inputs, just coaxial. In that case, it's no longer a matter of an adapter, you need some kind of inverse tuner, because the RCA just carries one channel, but coaxial carries all the channels. Anyway, the easiest way is to find another device like a VCR that has RCA inputs and coaxial output.

I just ordered one of these:

Belkin S-video SCART for PowerBook £19.00 from Apple UK. "The easiest way to connect your PowerBook to your television."

I get the impression that the S-video to RCA cable that comes with the PB is just for video (i.e. no audio).

That's correct. Here in States you can buy a little audio out splitter at Radio Shack which will split the right and left audio channels into the appropriate RCA wires. So you would have
  • 1. a wire coming out of your audio out and splitting into two audio channels and then
    2. your s-Video into an RCA adapter for your video channel.
In all, you'll have the three RCA wires needed to carry audio and video. This worked perfectly for a very long time for me until I installed Panther. Now I only get a black and white video. I've researched all over the web and on Apple's site and nothing is mentioned about this anywhere. I'm still on the prowl, but if you know of something to try, let me know! I'm really miffed about this! But that's what I get for running Panther this early in the game.
