The silver paint right above the DVD drive is starting to chip really badly on my Ti PB. I am thinking about maybe taking all the (silver) paint off and repaint it, or maybe apply some film layer on top to keep it looking good. _
Has anyone seen any hacks, or mods for the Ti PowerBook? Has anyone repainted it, or done anything like that?
LInks, pictures, any info would be helpful...

Thanks,

t

The Ti paint is covered by AppleCare, if you've still got Applecare. I keep hoping that MacSkinz will come out with a cover for the Ti, but that's not likely now that the new models are out:

Send it to one of the US bike companies that build Ti Mountain Bikes.

Litespeed, Merlin, etc.

They will bead blast and/or clear coat it. If only Steve was a mountain biker.

Man I forget which mag it was. MacAddict or something had an article about opening up your laptop, and disconnecting the antenna for airport. Then hooking up an external one to get better reception.

How much would it be for apple to repaint it? Nothing if you got applecare I think.
MacBook Pro 15" Rev B | 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo | 2GB Mem | 160GB HD | Display 15 Glossy Widescreen Display
iPod Mini Green | 35 gigs of music :-)
HP DV1040us Laptop | 1.6 Pentium M | 1GB RAM | Centrino

if you have applecare they'll repaint it, but only once, so make sureyou really need it now.

I repainted my PB 800. It was in bad shape when I bought it but the price was right. I took the entire PB apart, replaced a broken hinge, and painted it with a silver light metallic paint. I even masked off the Apple logo and keyboard area when I did it so not to paint over it. It turned out pretty nice.

I've been seriously considering repainting my TiBook (or at least stripping it, then clearcoating it...)

But what I really want to know is how you fixed the broken hinge? One of the hinges on mine broke just recently (right at the point where the screw goes into the lid at the point closest to the hinge), and now that side is loose, and the lid starts to spread apart considrably whenever I try to open it... I'd like to scope some pics if you got any...

I was considering repainting mine also, but I was warned that it voids the warrantee.
Search for a thread called "Tibook touch-up" and you'll find some info.

Sorry, no pics of it yet. Here is a link I used as a reference for replacing the broken hinge.

Yeah, but my TiBook is nearly two years old (come next year), so my warranty is long gone. And I was considering applecare, but it's about time for me to upgrade my 'Book anyway, so I'll reserve the applecare for my next purchase.

Also, thanks for the link, CobraNT
