A coworker and I bought new 1.25mHz 15" PowerBooks with 1 gig ram about a week after they started shipping. We are both experiencing the same serious problems and I am wondering if others have seen these issues with these new machines.

First, kernel panics. The machines have crashed into the multi lingual crash screen a number of times. It does not seem to be related to a particular application. The Apple Hardware Test application never finds a problem. Running fsck -y in the single user mode after the crash sometimes finds errors but does report fixing them. I have run Disk Utility and both repaired and fixed permissions. I ran DiskWarrior 3 (in the target mode since DW will not boot on the new machines) and it fixed some seemingly small problems. I have re-seated the memory cards and AirPort Extreme card. It runs for day or two without problems and then I get another kernel panic crash.

Secondly, we both have had the machines refuse to start up. Press the power button and nothing happens. Repeated attempts just fail. I have had some success by removing the battery, re-inserting it and then hitting the power key. Eventually it starts but it very disconcerting.

I had a 500mHz TiBook and never had these issues. Since we are both having the exact same experiences I am wondering if it is more widespread. Is this a 10.2.7 issue? Is it a hardware design issue? Or is it just a coincidence?

BTW,are there any clues that can be found in the crash logs?

Thanks in advance for any guidance.
