In the effort to see why some of us qualified to get Panther under the up-to-date program who purchased BEFORE OCT 8th and those who didn't, I'm asking people to vote on this poll.

Instructions:

Givens:
  • Order PLACED before OCT 8th
  • Powerbook G4 15" FW800 only
Questions 1 & 2 apply to those who did NOT change any of the specs of the PB when ordering (i.e. change hard drives, etc)

Questions 3&4 apply to those who changed or added things (like changing the hard drive, or adding more ram, etc... making it what is called a BTO - built to order).

I'm just guessing but i think it has to do with BTO orders and nothing else... yes, their system is broken for letting anyone before Oct 8 so hopefully we can figure out why, and push Apple to let the rest of us in as well.

NOTE: Could u provide details as to your order (specifically to the PB itself and additons or changes (other items do not apply)), BTO or not, and some dates as well (order date, receive date).

Cash sale of 12" PB from (physical) Apple store on Oct. 7th. Got on that webpage and was approved a few days later. I have to say that although I regged my PB on the first day, I didn't get a responce from Apple in my email thanking me for registering until Oct. 9th, so maybe that had something to do with it. Who knows.

In order for the up-to-date site to work you must register your machine, wait about a day and then try again. Some people can do it without registering however BTO orders need to do it.

my order from February 13 didn't work

is registering it any more than the forms you fill out when you first turn the machine on, that are submitted online?

edit: just so nobody asks, i didn't actually expect it to work

I have to change my selection! I had a BTO Canadian Education Deal and the Update page did not recognize my serial number. After seeing this thread I decided to try ONE MORE TIME. And it worked. I didn't change a thing. The fact the Apple ADDED my serial number to the lst of available upgraders must make this legit right?

I'm so excited!!

Nope, your correct just filling out the stuff the first time you use the computer and then sending it in is all you have to do. Apple should send you an e-mail afterwards thanking you for registering it. I wouldn't think that it would have worked for you Feb. is just a little too far back

I just got my BTO 15" PB yesterday. I ordered it on sept. 27

Just now I went to the apple web site and was able to qualify my PB, still havent registered.

this is kind of off topic, but the final cost was only 20.95, I thought I heard people saying there was a $4 shipping charge?

At first my total was $25.30 after I saw you post I went back and looked the price went down to $20.95. I thought that it was odd to be charged that extra shipping because thats what the advertised price was for. it seems that Apple corrected that issue.

BTO 1.25 Ghz Al 15" Ordered on September 16th (the first day), and I qualified afer a little futzing with registering. Here's what all of you who didn't qualify need to do, I think.

1) Register your machine at http://www.apple.com/register (DO THIS EVEN if you have registered when you booted your machine up for the first time)

2) Wait til you get the e-mail from Apple

3) Wait another day or so (VERY important)

4) Try registering again. You should qualify.

It worked for me!
