I want to buy more memory for my 15" Powerbook G4. I currently have the stock 512mb, but my goal is to max out the RAM, but right now it's too much money to buy 1gb sticks.
Here is my question: Does anybody have any clue as to when they will come down in price?
I use final cut pro and DVD studio pro a lot and the current 512mb isn't enough. So I'm not sure if I should just to bring my total up to 768mb by buying a 512mb.

You should really buy 2x512MB sticks to make it 1GIG until the 1GIG SODIMMs drop in price. I'd give them 6-12 months before a huge drop.

I doubt 1 GB modules will come down in price THAT much for a LONG time. I assume you have 2x256. Eventually, you'll end up discarding both of those most likely (or keep them as backups). You can BTO a 15" with 512 in ONE slot, but it costs $100--and you can get a 512 module 3rd-party for little more than that. So fear not, you really haven't wasted any money.
Here's what I'd do:
1. Get 512 3rd-party RAM now, for $120 or less, and replace one of the 256s. Total: 768. Significantly better than you have now, and easy to install.
2. Then wait and see what happens with pricing. Later one, get a second 512 (even cheaper by then)--or MAYBE a 1 GB module if that becomes affordable. new total: 1 GB or 1.5 GB.
3rd-party RAM sources I like: transintl.com and eshop.macsales.com. Others recommend crucial.com and dealram.com

!!! Buy it only from Crucial!!!
I got a bad chip from ramjet and need to get it replaced.
KP CITY!!!
Apparently, there are a few posts on here saying that the new 2GB architechture is QUITE picky about ram.

I would not worry about buying only crucial. but that is defiantly personal preferance
I would buy the cheapest ram you can find that is within your specs.
I have never had a problem with any ram I bought
