When did the dual-USB iBooks change color? I am on a 700 MHz ibook right now. The inside is more frosty white and has a texture to it where the original dual-USBs have a silvery-grey inside and are smooth? When did this change?
Also, when did the font go from the old one to the new one (where it says "iBook" under the screen)? The one I'm on now has the new font and the one I had before has the old font.
Just wondering.

The font didn't change at the same time as the color/finish, a little earlier if I recall (perhaps the 600/700 revision in May 2002?).
Now, the first opaque white iBook was the 700/CD released in November 2002. The 800/Combo and 800/14" released at the same time still had the old color. After that, all of them had the opaque white finish. So that means the 700/CD, the 800/CD, the 900/Combo, and the 900/14".

I think they changed the font with the 700 opaque (CD) and 800 crystal (Combo)
This is also when they first introduced the opaque white appearance (on the 700 only at that time).

I like the new opaque look. I didn't know they were different so when I got a new one it was a nice surprise. The old look is still nice, but the new one is better, IMO.

You're the first person i've heard about liking the opaque white. I can't stand it myself, it looks so incredibly cheap to me. It reminds me of the grotesque plastic of cheap replacement windows-

yeah i picked up the old 800/combo ibook and returned the 900 (when they first came out)...couldnt stand it--thought it looked like a trash can. even the inside around the keyboard feels very cheap.

I like the old look better. The new look is very clean but still.. I dig the old one. Maybe because I have one

Wow, you're all weird.
I really like this new look and feel. Maybe it's because it feels all new to me. I'm going up to an 800 though so I will most likely get the older model since there are more of those around for less money, and I want the combo drive.
It's not that I dislike the old one, it's just this new one is all special.

I got the opportunity to go to an Apple store over the weekend. I saw the new stye iBooks up close. I didn't really care for them. Someone here (or elsewhere--too lazy to check) mentioned that they were the same as the new iMacs. Well, I saw an iMac there and realized how true that was. I guess I've been under the impression that the iMac had the same translucent feel, but just didn't have any edges to really make it show; except for the edge of the display, if that would count.

The silver finish was far superior. I'd be somewhat embarrased to be seen with the opaque white editions -- but not with the originals. Hoping to see a redesign soon -- as I owe my wife a new machine.

Which color would this be? Would it have the original silverish finish?
iBook G3/700 12in 256/20/CD/Airport
5/APPM8971
Thinking of picking one up for my wife -- though dont think she (or i) will care for the new look.
Thanks-
Elvis

This one should have the new opaque white/white finish.
