I have one of these from when I had my iBook 500:

I tried to plug it into my iBook 700 today but it didn't work. Is the headphone jack not a video out port anymore? I notice it only has a picture of headphones now.

Do I need one of these?

If I decide to get an iBook 800 (w/ combo drive), will I have a use for the cable I have? Or should I send it along w/ the iBook 500 that I'm selling?

Thanks.

If you get an ibook 800 it will come with the proper VGA adapter to connect an external monitor. There is also another cable for video out to TV (for DVD's). Either way, the cable you have will not work on an 800. It has a different AV port than the old 500-

This will work with the iBook 500 and the first generation iBook 600 (Late 2001).

This is the adapter you need now.

With the new adaptor, you'll also need your own S-Video or yellow RCA video cable. I certainly prefer the old-style adaptor on my iBook.

Thanks for the info. I will just give my cable to the new owner of my 500. I was going to keep it so I wouldn't have to buy a new one, but I didn't realize I couldn't use it with my new one.
