Not sure how many ppl know about this, but i just found this niffy little app called SideTrack. it allows you to have vertical and horizontal scrolling on your trackpad!
SideTrack
It'd be nice if ppl can post links for useful apps that will make the PB experience that much better than it already is.

Just a warning:
SideTrack is still a beta. Their website warns of potential problems, and although I know for some people it has worked flawlessly, mine would kernel panic every time I woke my 15" Al from sleep. In one very bad case, I couldn't get the computer to restart (even by following their suggestion to hold down shift to bypass third-party drivers) and I had to reinstall OS X - not fun!
It is, however, a great utility - something that should be standard IMO, but kudos to the authors for some brilliant work. I can't wait for the final release so I can try it again.

I use a utility every day called LineIn to listen to my XM radio through my USB speakers. It's a very simple (but very useful) app and could easily be replaced by a "pass this source through to output" check-box in sound system preferences. Again, kudos to someone who took the time to write a feature Apple left out.

I've been beta testing SideTrack for weeks now, and have not had any problems.
Runs well on 10.3 Panther, as well.
Another indispensible app: uControl.
You can remap that useless "enter" key to become an extra "Option" or "fn" key.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work in Panther yet.

Just installed SideTrack. GREAT little app. has made it much faster to navigate almost anything. Let me know when this is final, so I can purchase!

I like the enter key! Very useful for IMing.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

Apple didn't leave it out. They just moved it. Open the Audio MIDI Setup program in the Utilities folder. There, under the audio devices tab is a 'Play Through' check-box.

I should have added that I am using a Griffin iMic to bring in my XM radio signal. I had originally tried the Audio MIDI Setup route, but when you select a USB audio source the "Play Through" check box grays out! (Not sure why... but LineIn works none the less.)
And uControl sounds great - maybe it will get me through control-clicking (which could now be a right-hand-only operation if I remap enter) until I'm comfortable installing SideTrack again.
Amorya - do you actually use the return key to put breaks in your IMs? I rarely have any use for a line break in an IM, so I just set the preference to send the message when I press return.

I figured I should make a few replies all batched together:
SideTrack is still a beta. Their website warns of potential problems, and although I know for some people it has worked flawlessly, mine would kernel panic every time I woke my 15" Al from sleep.
As far as I know the kernel panic at wake was fixed in SideTrack 0.7.2. I haven't had any reports of this issue since 0.7.2 was released, and it is known to fix at least 5 folks who had reported the problem.
Of course this is not to say 0.7.2 is perfect. I've fixed a bunch of issues, and generally made things more paranoid but its still beta and will remain so for several more months. All the cautions still apply. I use SideTrack all day every day and believe its generally safe, but it is a kernel extension and that's inherently a potentially dangerous space.
In one very bad case, I couldn't get the computer to restart (even by following their suggestion to hold down shift to bypass third-party drivers) and I had to reinstall OS X - not fun!
I've not heard of anything so extreme. I'd appreciate it if you would contact me in email (basilisk@foobox.net) so I can get more details. I'd like to fix this, or at least get it in the FAQ.

I've chatted with Shane recently, its being worked on, I promise

Thanks for sharing this is a very useful app. I just installed it on my PB 12 rev. A with no problems at all. Most likely will buy this app if its final.
