Ok, so i've ran into a dilemma. I need a new notebook, as my 15" Ti 500mhz is just not cutting it anymore. Sometime next year i will be purchasing a G5, want to wait for at least a Rev B version before i jump right in. Anyway, that being said. Im just wondering what everyone thinks about the 12" vs the 15". Portability is very important which makes the 12" enticing. But the features of the 15", well mostly the ati 9600 make me wonder. Also with the whole white spots issue im wondering if i should just wait if i were to purchase a 15". Thanks in advance on any advice!

Might want to run a search, the 12" and 15" models — both individually and comparitively —_have gotten a lot of press around here lately.

Well....IMO...I would go with the 12". If you think long run. We all know the 15" in a bit better in a lots a ways...better screen...btter graphics...faster...etc...BUT if there is a G5 in the near future...save your money...get the portability from the 12" (which is the BEST) and in the long run you will have a Super Powerful desktop and a Super Portable laptop (PowerBook). But that is just what I think. I had the debate between the 12 and 15 too when I bought my PowerBook, I went for the 15 beacuse it is replacing my desktop, and it does the job....I was a little skechy if the 12 could replace a desktop.

Personally if portability is an issue I'd go with the 12." A Rev B G5 PB is at least IMHO 18 months away. So, a 12" would be a less expensive (vs getting a 15") stop-gap until then.

If I were you I'd go to an Apple Store or other retailer and check both of them out so you can get a feel for size and weight vs. performace issues.

If you opt for the 15" I'd wait for a while to get one until their production problems and issues get ironed out. Meanwhile, the 12" is on Rev B and all of the issues with it seem to be resolved.

Thanks for the advice. I've seen and used both the 12 and 15 at my job. I'm just not a fan of buying REV A's anymore. I have my TiBook 500mhz, it's not had a single problem, but a few months later they updated it. That's also why i am waiting for the G5 Desktops to be upgraded although the dual 2 is sick! Im about 90% sure that i'm going to get the 12" powerbook w/ a 17" lcd and then next year get whatever dual g5 is available!

I was having the same dilema as you about a week ago and I choose the 12, and let me tell you I could not be happier. It is the perfect size. It is even my only computer and I still love it. I don't think that you will find that the vid card is that much worse. I mean it has half the RAM, but really I have not run into anything where it has slowed down at all.

Trust me, get the 12, the 15 is just too big.

I keep changing my mind on this and i have changed it yet again. I DID order the 15" when they came out and it was ready to be delivered until i cancelled it, then i wanted the 12" then i opted for the 17". But considering the price of the thing and the difference it makes when compared to the 12" (mhz, system bus and Graphics Card i don't think it is worth it. The G4 is also near the end of its life and considering the lack of DDR support, poorish battery life and system bus, it doesn't seem worth it, to me.
The battery life on the 12 and 17 PB's are better than the 15 btw and this is important for me anyway, but i would buy a battery with any of them anyway.

But like i said i don't think the 15 and 17 PB's are worth it and i am buying mine with ADC discount!

Like the other person pointed out, you can get a 17" screen with the 12" PB if you need the portability outside the house and the screen space inside the house.

Useful if you want a desktop machine later because you would already have the screen.

Then again i might change my mind again and opt for the 17" PB because of my circumstances...arrgh!
