I have apple care but my mac is only 3 weeks old. I am considering calling apple because it does not close properly, the screen latches but not as well (not as loud of a click) as my brothers AL12 rev B. And it also does not close evenly, the left side doesnt touch so it bobbles when you carry it. So i think they could fix this with some adjustments, do I worry about my data? should i just turn off auto-login and pw protect my login. Then they won't go snooping around on my hd?

Has anyone had this problem fixed? what was the turn around time and did the powerbook come back better?

My 17" has exactly the same problem, plus the hand rest corrosion, plus a slight "squashing" of the lid, so the plastic rim sits below the metal of the outer screen when it is open. I've treated this machine like a new-born baby in the month-and-a-half I've had it, so this makes me pretty angry.

Apple build quality my arse.

My gosh. you people paid some pretty serious coin for this trouble ! Just curious as I don't have a laptop and am on the fence. Doesn't spending $2-3K on the coolest laptop that has these problems kind of kill the excitement? I was considering a Windows laptop , which I know here isn't considered all that, butI have not heard about so many hardware problems on good quality windows boxes.
I went by the local Microcenter and just played around with a 15" PB and it looked great. Now I am not so sure . We are talking a lot of money here.

I think that people who own Apple prodcuts are more "picky" with cosmetics and operation. Personally, if I owned a PC laptop that had a slightly warped screen or uneven illumination, I probably wouldn't send it back to get repaired.

My screen was a little bit warped when I sent it in due to white spots. It came back just about even. We'll see if it starts to warp again, but so far it's been okay for a week.

I think that is pure BS.

I'm picky about ANY product that costs me a lot of money. I expect laptops over 1,500 dollars to be flawless period.

I'm on my third 12" rev C replacement and it still has build quality issues. I'm debating getting a 4th or just getting a refund.

I've owned multiple Thinkpads and never had the problems i've had with these Powerbooks.

Only reason i'm dealing with this crap is because i like the OS and the machine is actually very good looking with a lot of features.

It's ridiculous that people are trying to make excuses for Apple's build quality, considering all the threads about build quality issues and ALL the problems that Apple has with several revisions of pretty much every Powerbook.

I honestly love my Powerbook, but i won't lie to anyone and tell them that it has better build quality than say a Thinkpad... because it doesn't.
