I've noticed on my brand new 12" PB 1GHZ that if I close the lid and come back (sleep mode), that PB light isn't pulsing anymore and the only way to wakeup the unit is to press the power key. I scoured the web for answers, but so far I've got nothing.

Anyone else heard of this?

Thought I'd post a message before I contact Apple.

I received my new 12" Monday, played with it a little and then updated to 10.2.8. I then proceeded to transfer everything from my old PowerBook to the 12" via Ethernet. I started getting strange Stalls in the transfers were the 12' would just lock up. Reverted back to 10.2.7 and all is fine. I think 10.2.8 is riddled with bugs(10.2.8 testing suffered because Apple was working on Panther so hard is the rumor). I'm not upgrading again till Panther.

I had the same problem after updating to 10.2.8 (the second time), although I use my 12" AlBook (Rev A) in clamshell mode a lot. I finally solved the problem by first zapping the PRAM, and then resetting the PMU (while the 'Book is off, hold down Control + Option + Shift + Power key, release all keys, wait for 5 secs, then power up). If you've done this successfully, your date will be changed to 12/31/69 or something similar.

I, too had HORRIBLE problems with 10.2.8 on my shiny new 17 1.33.

I got rid of it and will wait till the Panther pounces.

I'm also having problems like these on my 12. But I agree that Panther is the way to go, and it's just around the corner. If that doesn't solve these issues, then I'll go another route, but for now, I'm waiting for the big cat.

When you push the power button, does the computer have to boot up? Like do you have to wait 1 minute with the throbber and everything, or does it just wake up when you push the power button, because that is perfectly normal. If it actually has to boot, then that is not normal at all. I would call apple if that is the case.

My rev. a 12" runs like a dream on 10.2.6 and that's where it's staying until Panther is ready (and bug-fixed!). I think 10.3.1 will be my next upgrade...

I reset the Power Management and zapped the PRAM. That just might of did it!

I'll keep you posted (fingers crossed).

Thanks for all of the great feedback.

My older Ti book has benefited a lot from the 10.2.8 update... It was having some problems, partly due to all the things I have running all the time. I had lately begun to notice some oddities and strange behavior from a number of programs and actions, but since updating, many of these problems have stopped. Also, (to tie in with this topic (sort of)) For some reason for the past while here, my book would take 15-30sec to spin down and sleep once I closed the lid, but since updating to .8 it sleeps almost instantly (like its suppose to). I wonder why the older books aren't experiencing problems like a lot of new uns?

Shut down your PB and hold the following keys:

- CTRL
-SHIFT
-OPTION
-POWER BUTTON

Keep them held for about a second. Wait another 5 seconds after letting go, and then turn on your PB. Your date should read something like 1969... That's how you'll know it worked!!

Good luck,
PG
