is there any way to hack the resolution up from 1024x768 to 1152x864? I can't imagine that 1024 is the highest setting this thing can handle.

I believe it's the screen that is limiting higher resolutions. LCD screens only look right at their native resolution. If you use an external monitor you can drive it at much higher resolutions.

From Apple:

"NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 graphics processor with AGP 4X support and 32MB of DDR SDRAM video memory (12-inch models)

Dual display and video mirroring: Simultaneously supports up to 1024 by 768 pixels on the built-in display and up to 2048 by 1536 pixels on an external display, both at millions of colors (7)"
Scooters are more fun than computers and only slightly more frustrating

Yep, 1024 is the max. res. the 12" PB will put out.

Different LCDs can operate at higher res. (like Alienware's 15" notebooks go to 1600x1200), but the one in the 12" PB is restricted to 1024 or under.

I used to have a dell 8100 that ran at 1600x1200... but let me tell ya, its not that great.

Sometimes stuff just gets too small, and if you lower the res at all, it looks like crap because its not the native res.

Lcd's cannot handle higher than their native res, its just the way they were made, the only way they can handle lower is simply by blurring the pizels together which looks like crap.
