I hate mobile phones, but recently it was implied that I was at fault as I waited in the cold for an hour for a lesson with my student as I had no mobile phone to receive his message that he couldn't make it. So I need to get connected, but can't afford the big bucks for the new SE numbers. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. If you just want to tell me to get another job, please don't.

P.S. I use a PowerBook 667 DVI 1 Gig RAM 80 Gig HD

Dont know if this applies to Moscow, but Amazon has great offers, up to free phones after rebates, on a number of SE phones, including the T610 and T616. Expansys (www.expansys.com) also has decent prices for unlocked GSM phones. Hope this helps.

Check here for compatible phones:
http://www.apple.com/isync/devices.html

You will need a USB bluetooth adapter (about €30) to synchronized these with your Address Book / iCal calendars.

The phones by themselves tend to be rather expensive (obviously; they're hi-tech), but get drastically cheaper with contracts in most places - I don't know about Russia.

I got my Siemens S55 (love it) for €49 when I renewed my contract for 24 months. Think of it as a phone lease, if you will.

AT&T Wireless has a $150 instant rebate on the SE T616; making your price $49, if you buy from the website. Pretty reasonable for such a slick phone - I use it with my 15" and it works flawlessly.

Go here and click on "Start with Phones".

EDIT: I didn't read well enough - drat. I don't know if you can use the AT&T T616 with a SIM from Russia or not. Sorry about that...

Thanks for the feedback. I'll check out the prices here. Russia has a pretty Europeanised mobile setup, so I'm sure everything will work.

Just one question - can I use a cable of some sorts in place of BlueTooth to do all the synching? I've never owned a mobile before.

I just upgraded from a Sony Ericsson T68i to a T610.

Very impressive phone, and works flawlessly with OS X... much better than the T68i, and very highly recommended...

Peace,

There's a wide variety of Motorola phones supported. They don't use bluetooth to communicate, so you won't need the adapter. Of course, you will need the USB data cable from Motorola. I think iSync handles everything, so you shouldn't even need special software.

Thanks, all,

I got an SE610 for 11000 roubles and picked up a D-line BlueTooth for $73. They work great together, so now just need to find a way to control everything else in the house with my new phone.
