I can't eject the CD in my 17 incher. It's a brand new CD and this has never happened before with the drive. Anyone know what to do?

I'd restart & hold down the "Eject" key while it's rebooting, if that doesn't work, restart again and hold down the "F12" key.

restart, hold down the "option-command-o-f", when the white screen appears type 'eject cd", then type mac-boot.

It's not like the drive isn't responding. It is. It just makes some chunky noises and then the CD remounts on the desktop. It's like it's jammed in there.

I have had the same problem with my 17" Revision A. Only when I experimented by applying pressure to the underside of the eject mechanism did the CD eject. It boiled down to holding the laptop a certain way. With you it may be different or not even work at all. Since I reasoned the trapped CD was misaligned with the eject slot, I applied pressure with my right hand at different points. Finally after grabbing and holding the powerbook at the right near corner with ONLY my right hand, the bottom supported only by my thumb pressing up into the bottom of the eject mechanism, did the CD eject. It was later discovered that the Fujifilm CD had a slanted edge; it was not perpendicular to the top and bottom surfaces; in actuality the top of the CD was larger in diameter than the bottom upon close inspection. All other CDs ejected fine and still do. In fact the whole case of Fujifilm CDs were bad. My Powerbook was not at fault in this case. Well, proceed at your own risk...or not. It's your call. Only realize, if you do decide to proceed, that pressure points required to align your trapped CD with the eject slot may be different. You may have to apply a torsion pressure by pressing down on the top corner with your thumb and the degree of pressure that I used may not be needed. Your CD may be a micron away from comming out but is hitting on the top edge of the eject slot.

I had this happen with a CD on my TiBook. Tried everything the posters above mention to no avail and then found yet another poster's tip: Hold your powerbook in the air so the slot is facing straight down and press eject. My troublesome disk popped right out.
Hope it works for you.

Yep, and if that does work, get a thin paperclip or something in there to re-align it so it'll come out straight.
