Hi all,
Just received my pb 2 days ago and i thought i would share my experience with all you guys and address some of the concern raised in this forum over the past few weeks.
my pb spec - Combo/60GB/APX/256MB(waiting for my 512 stick)
1. Build time, shipping and delivery -
I place order for my pb from the UK Apple EDU store on the 2nd of Oct. The original build time was 5-7 days for pb and 10-15 for 20GB ipod. Called Apple on the 4th and they told me shipping should happen between the 16th and 23rd. In the end it shipped on the 10th from taiwan arrived in luxemburg on the 13th and got to London on 15th. After reading so many horror story of slow shipping to Europe i was very very pleasantly surprise!!
2. Heat -
It's warm under the left wrist but just warm, not uncomfortable at all. nothing to worry about here.
3. Wrapping -
i tried it on my desk at home and it feels like there is a slight wrap, but not enough to affect typing. However it sits perfectly on my office desk, so i am not so sure whether it's wrapped or it's just my desk at home. i guess i will try it on more desks and let you guys know.
4. Airpot -
Perfect reception, full bar everywhere in my flat using it with a netgear router. tried it in the office, the reception on this pb is better than some of the windows laptop with compaq wlan card. no probelm whatsoever.
5. screen -
i havent used many laptop before so i can't really comment here, but i think it's slightly brighter than my friend's ibook but not as good as the screen on thinkpad X30
6. Battery life (10.2.7 6R55)-
after calibrating the battery once, i got just over 3 hrs of real world usage (3hr10min, i actually timed it) during the time i was surfing using airport, installing packages, writing emails etc, played mp3 for about 30mins, bluetooth off, screen at abot 60-70% brightness. i am pleased with this, looking forward to see what Panther can do with extending the battery life though.
7. Fan -
hasnt come on once over the 2 days!! it's so quiet, i can't believe it.
8. The One and only problem for me -
the cd/dvd drive is so noisy!!! i would never consider putting in a disk during a lecture or someone's presentation, this drive just makes too much noise when reading cds.
Overall i am really happy with my first mac, and want to say thanks so much to all you guys posting in this forum, reading your posts helped me to make the great decision of getting this baby!!
