I don't have the original OS cd's that came with my ibook...I have a retail copy of jaguar and it boots and installs but the screen gets very small (small 6" square with black around it) and won't let me adjust the Rez..as well as there seems to be a phantom monitor present...I went to an apple resller and used thier ibook osx install cd (ibook 900) and it installed and all seems well no phantom monitor full screen etc....is my retail jag too old to install on a ibook 800? even with updates? (10.2.8) it is seriously weird..do I need to just get the original cd's for this? or should I just buy panther? thanks Mark

I'm using a retail copy of Jaguar (updated to 10.2.8) with no problems on my iBook 600, so I can't imagine your retail copy is the problem on an 800...unfortunately, I can't think of what else it might be.

Hmm...did you ever use the monitor spanning hack? If so, maybe that did something?

Only does things (AFAIK) to Rage iBooks. (Checks Mactracker) All iBook 800s have Radeons.
Trainiable is to cat as ability to live without food is to human.

never tried the spanning hack...but I also bought this used too...I am running Jag from the install I did at the apple store and it works fine..but my retail jag disks still don't install normally so I am thinking it's older than my ibook? strange that the iibook 700 uses the same chipset but only 16 vram instead of 32? I wonder if jag would install normal on a 700?...I ordered some original cd's and see if that solves all of it...even in OS9 if I boot from a system folder from my imac (copied across to the ibook HD) it shows 2 displays present? will see how it goes...I have warranty until NOV 15/2005
