Can you hook up an external monitor to an ibook 500 icebook.

And can you use it, in clamshell mode?

thanks.

yes, you can hook up a monitor with the appropriate adaptor. i'm fairly sure you can't run it in clamshell mode though.

Cool link. Can you hook up the ibook then to only on VGA monitor?

Does that mean the old 15 inch with ADC wouldn't work?

Unfortunately, the ADC connection would require a ~$300 adapter from Dr. Bott to convert VGA to ADC. Kind of pricy. A lot of people like the Samsung flat panel monitors, even the VGA ones. There's often a debate about which is better, the Samsung or the Apple in the Peripherals forum here.

I used to run my iBook through a VGA CRT 17" monitor and it was nice (mirroring only )

CRT monitors are inexpensive and better for gaming or video, IMHO, than most LCD monitors. The only drawbacks are power usage and weight/space.

You can almost close your iBook and run it. Or just darken the iBook screen all the way.
Scooters are more fun than computers and only slightly more frustrating

an ibook run (mirrored) in clamshell mode IF you have a monitor hooked up, have a usb keyboard and a mouse... i dont think it will just run with a mouse.

as far as options go- try nosleep

http://ftp.schempp.ch/schempp.ch/www/macosx/nosleep/

get the most recent one... this is a hack that prevts the ibook from sleeping when the lid is closed. i had luck with this on 10.2.6 but none with either 10.2.8 or panther 7B85.

you can set the screens to not be mirrored but it is kinda a scray thing to do (have to tweak the openfirmware), and i think with the origional ibooks (8mb vram and a 67 mhz bus) this will renbder your ibook dead.

i have a 700/combo/14"/16mb vram that this worked wonderfully on.

see what that does fo you.

i can run all kindsa resolutions besides just 1024, as that is more of a function of the lcd than the video card.

hope this helped
