Well, from the pictures of the new iBooks, it appears they are back to silver again (keyboard area/screen area).
I hope this is true, I really did not like the look of all white. Can anyone verify if this is true??
Thanks

I am typing this at the SOHO NYC Apple store...
no new ibooks on display yet.
The prices on the display G3 models have not been lowered.
I'm here for a Final Cut Express and FCP4 demonstration, at 4 or 5 when it is over I'll go look again and report if anything is on display yet. I'm VERY curious to see if they updated that cheesy tacky white plastic on the keyboard area or not.
But as of now at 2 p.m... no slot loading ibooks in public display at the NYC Apple store.

Let us know about the color. maybe you could ask the salesman to see the box. I was thining of going over there myself, but I called and they said they would be on display within the week.
But the 12inch is availble to buy, the 14inch not to next week.
But they told me the same thing about the 15inch powerbook being on display in one week, but it was there 2 days after it was announced.
I think they would be stupid, not to have it on display this Friday when panther comes out and I think they will have it displayed by then.
It's the frist mac to have panther on it and you can be the first to own panther if you buy the ibook G4. Kind of fun.
thinking of just buying it and never looking back.
I bought the rev a ibook 500 usb and it's been great. this is rev a of the G4 ibook, but it is not really a new design so I assume it will work just as well and amybe get a little hotter.
Who knows? could have the problems of the rev a powerbook.

ok..I was wrong..the poster I saw when I ran upstairs for the software demo was for POWERBooks..not ibook.. OOOOPS>.so sorry...I was in a hurry and well...the 12" ibooks and 12" powerbooks look very similar etc from certain angles anyhow..sorry for the confusion.
So I asked a clerk....they dont' have any the store and the lady I asked didn't know when they would be in for sure.
sorry!
As to the ibooks..I also have a 500 mzh ibook and I'm wondering if there will be a processor upgrade avail via 3rd party? I love my old white ibook and have already installed a 40 gig drive in it.. would be nice to just upgrade it. Especially if the new ibooks still have that cheap opaque milk carton plastic around the keyboard.
If you ask me the old icebooks with the silver plastic inside are beautiful.

that's odd. on the phone they had them in stock, but you went there and they didn't have them?
Crazy.
Anyway, yes the silver is much better than that crap white look.

well...after I went and doublechecked they said..yes..they are right over there on "THAT" table. So I though ok..I'll walk over there. (there are like 10 different tables at the NYC store with ibooks all over the place)..anyhow..so I went to "THAT" table..
and it just had 3 OLD g3 ibooks.
I think the short answer is the clerks are confused to be honest.

from the photos on apple's site it looks to me like they gently "greyed" it, much like Panther has a slight grey tone (in the menu bar, for example) compared to the whiter Jaguar.

I really hope that the new G4 iBooks have the silver color. Hopefully someone can find out if this is true or not and update the rest of us who are *hoping* it is!

Apple has made iBooks with both white and silver inside in the past.
Looking at old and new QTVRs, here's what I think:
I think it's now GREY inside--not silver. But I think the trackpad button may be silver, and the latch button is definitely metallic.
Either way, the loss of the cheesy clear keys is a big improvement!
EDIT--user pics:

Definitely grey, not silver, inside. And the trackpad button looks grey too. (It had a shine in the QTVR that made me wonder.)

No more clear keys?? I've got a 600mhz, and i love the uniqueness of the slightly clear keys. it's too bad that they're totally switching to the opaque look, first the case, now the keys.

I do like the uniqueness of the clear keys--but going back to the first iMac, it's a uniqueness I never cared for that much. Its time is past. (OK, the clear bronze keys on my Lombard are pretty snazzy!)
The glossy white look is more Apple to me--and the new iBooks keep that.
