I bought a new Alum 15" powerbook which has DVI output. It comes with a DVI to VGA connector for VGA monitors. But no DVI to DVI monitor cable.
I bought a NEC/Mitsubishi 1920 flat panel monitor that has both DVI-D and VGA inputs. It comes with a VGA cable. But no DVI cable.
ARGH
Where can I get a DVI to DVI cable? If I just go to my local computer store, will any DVI to DVI work? Or does Apple require *special* ones.
thanks

Any DVI to DVI should work. Prices may vary. Radically. Monster cable makes a 6 foot cable for ~$100. You can also grab one off of ebay for about $11 shipped. Does it make a difference? Opinions differ on this.

It really depends. I needed a DVI cable because my TV had a DVI input and my new DVD player had DVI out. The monster cable was recommended by the videophiles. I could not bring myself to buy a cable that was a third of the price of my DVD player though. On the other hand, I would not hook up several thousand dollars of AV equipment using a $4 cable ($7 shipping).
I ended up buying one from amazon for ~$20. Two points. First. I refused to pay for one from a computer store because of the massive mark up: it reminded me of the days of SCSI cables. Second. Do cables make a difference? Only if you get REALLY cheap cables. Imagine hooking up a set of Tower PSB speakers to a massive amp using 28 gauge wire.
Hope it helps.

My eyes started crossing when I was reading their little essay about the diff. kinds of DVI connections avail. DVI-I, DVI-D, dual cable, single cable, etc.
The spec sheet for the Al PB just says "DVI output" ... no further details.
The manual for the monitor says "DVI-D 24-pin connector."

Getting a monster cable DVI cable makes no sense. DVI is a digital signal, and has quite a bit built in to deal with interference.
VGA cables on the other hand, well, a cheep one is definitly noticible when running a 21 inch CRT at high resolututions and the cable is ran near any heavy power source.

It's the "best" DVI: DVI-I dual link.
