G4 iBook Max RAM?

Obviously the listed maximum for the G4 iBooks is 640 MB. However, this was true for the original 12" Powerbook as well until 1GB DDR SO-DIMMs became available (albeit at an expensive price). Is it safe to assume that the new iBooks with DDR RAM can also use these 1GB DIMMs as well?

nope-
the ibook architecture uses a 144 pin ram chip while the PB uses a 200 pin arch.

It can't be 144 pin RAM, since the iBook G4 uses DDR RAM.

Absolutely. The real RAM ceiling for the G4 iBooks is 1152MB.

128 MB + 1024 MB = 1152 MB

d4nth3m4n was using the specs he posted from apple's sites for RAM upgrades for the old ibook - was not yet updated. So he's wrong, I believe.

www.transintl.com sells them, as well as a few other places...it's about $600USD right now.

The G4 iBook specs finally, just today, specify PC2100 (266MHz) DDR SDRAM. It's really too bad that you can't special order faster hard drives, that would make this a powerbook killer! Unless Apple has somehow limited the max RAM to 640?
Why don't they put these details in from the very beginning? Don't they have proof readers? Even now, the 12" AlBook order page says you're getting a TFT display, when it's really an XGA TFT display, just like the iBooks (a step down in sharpness.)

a 'TFT screen' vs. an 'XGA TFT screen' are not mutually exclusive at all. They're both TFT, XGA is just another way to say 1024x768 resolution. The 12" lcd screens Apple is using may be a step down in quality, but it has nothing to do with them being XGA or TFT, it has to do with contrast ratio, and viewing angle.

I don't get your point? The 12" Powerbook has always had the same screen as the 12" iBook, at the very same resolution (1024 x 768) and "sharpness" (whatever you mean by that).
