I'm thinking I got bad RAM here.

I have a Pismo 500MHz. I bought a 512MB stick off ramseeker.com, installed it and restarted. I got the chime, but the screen didn't turn on. I heard the disk spinning but saw no visible signs of life. Put my 256MB module back in and we started up just fine. 512MB again. No. 256 again. Yes.

Does this sound like bad RAM to you or what? Any help would be more than appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I hope this helps... I found it at the following url:
http://www.techbase.iofm.net/tips/applemac/tip1.htm

On an iMac, Blue and White G3, Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics), and PowerBook G3 Series (Bronze keyboard):

1 beep = No RAM installed/detected.
2 beeps = Incompatible RAM type installed.
3 beeps = No RAM banks passed memory testing.
4 beeps = Bad checksum for the remainder of the boot ROM.
5 beeps = Bad checksum for the ROM boot block.

On a Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics):

1 beep = no RAM installed.
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types.
3 beeps = no good banks.
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block).
5 beeps = processor is not usable.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't get any sort of beep when I restart. I get the good ol' reassuring BAHMMMMM! making me thing that everything is going to be fine, but then a few minutes pass and the screen hasn't lit up yet. It's just dark.

I put the 256MB chip back in and it works fine. Strange.
