Since I somehow managed to fill up my 60GB internal HD I`m thinking about buying an external one.
I want about 150GB on that thing.

What products you use/own/know about would you recommended?

thanks

I use the wiebetech duo GB. Works great, I have 2 200gb western digital 7200rpm 8mb buffer drives in there, and i use a fw800 to fw400 cable so i can use my fw400 port for my minidv camera.

My only complaint is that the unit i was shipped, one of the wires to the power supply is stripped to the wire (plastic covering cut), but it works fine and hasn't displayed any problems.

Yea, I want to get one as well. I'm looking at LaCie d2 200GB FireWire 800 Drive which will cost $339.00 at the Online Apple Store. But I don't have the money for that yet. I rather get myself a iPod first, but... that'll be $500. Hmmm... maybe a hard drive first than.

I bought the enclosure and drives separately.

The 200gb drives cost $100 each at compusa with instore and mail-in rebates.

Enclosures you can get as cheap as $100 (sometimes less).

I also have an ABS pyro enclosure, i don't recommend that one because the power supply wire is loose and keeps powering on and off the drive at will which could crash or corrupt the drive if it does so while writing to the disk.

160gb Lacie d2 from Apple EDU store for $209. FW400 is all you need unless you are doing video and stuff.

Mmmm, tasty. I'd shoot for this, but FireWire 800 may be a bit excessive for your needs.

I have a Maxtor 160GB external and it hasn't given me many problems. It's not top of the line, but it gets the job done.

Enclosures can easily be had for under $50. Well, if you need FireWire 800, it might be closer to $100, but it shouldn't cost $100 just for a standard FireWire 400 -> ATA hard drive case.
