My friend is looking for at buying an G3 ibook 14 inch.... but I told him I think the 14inch screen is kind of fuzzy looking, like apple is using a higher resolution screen, but limited it to 1024.
anyway, I suggested maybe he should buy an odler powerbook with a 14.1 inch screen.
But how high does the resolution on those models go?
And are they fuzzy?
which one to get? Pismo?
thank you.

I own a Pismo, and as far as I know the screens in the new iBooks are of higher quality than this one. At least when I have looked at iBooks in the Apple store the screens seemed sharper and brighter than my Pismo. But then mine is going on 4 years old, so I would expect the screens on the new models to be better.

My Pismo had an excellent screen, although it dimmed a bit over time. Thhe resolution was 1024 by 768, which made reading text at the end of the day difficult, because of the sheer small size of the letters, not because of fuzziness or lack of focus.
In any case, since your friend isn't absolutely interested in speed (get a modern iBook for $400 more) get a Wallstreet for durability. Pismos are quick and interesting-looking, and Wallstreets are built like tanks.

I have a 1999 Lombard and the Screen is Great! Not fuzzy at all, very crisp. It is only 1024 X 768 like the ibook BUT of better quality, ie colors are more natural and the black level is better. I use mine for Photography so any time I see other LCD's I'm always comparing color, black level, etc. Returned a New 12" PB due to poor screen quality when compared side by side to my old Lombard by the way. Screen on the new PB was unbearable for what I do.

... like apple is using a higher resolution screen, but limited it to 1024.
That's DEFINITELY not the case. The panel is a genuine 1024x768--and a good one, to my eye.
The pixels are larger--but still LCD sharp--on the 14" than on other Apple laptops. With text anti-aliasing, that means the in-between pixels (grey or colored for LCD smoothing) are bigger too, and thus more visible. Some peoply may perceive that as blurring? I for one--and my friend who looked at the 12" and 14" agrees--find the larger type and pixels makes the 14" MORE readable than any other Apple laptop.
And an older 14" model wouldn't be any different--except the bulb would be older and probably dimmer!
Don't steer your friend away from the 14". It's a good display, just with a different DPI. Whether that's as good to her/his eyes as it is to mine is a personal preference. Let them decide by looking at the new models in a store, maybe. The screen size will be the same.
