I don't know what has caused this, but it is beyond a joke. My beloved iBook! It's an iBook dual usb, 600mhz, 20gb.. yada yada yada..

For some reason, my iBook doesn't want me to completely open her up... when I raise the monitor to about a 90 degree angle, the bulb behind the LCD goes out, making it impossible to see the screen! The only way to get it back is to put the laptop to sleep, then wake it up again. (or restart the whole thing). I've tried booting into firmware and resetting everything (reset-all), I've formatted the hard disk and reinstalled Jaguar... I didn't think it was a hardware problem... I figured if it was a loose connection or something, it would just turn back on when I pulled the monitor back towards me again, but it doesn't... what's happening?! I need my iBook, and don't want to have to take it in to get fixed - they charge SOO much!

Pleeease someone help!

It is a commonish problem... but with no solution except a warranty repair, or paying to get it fixed

It could be either be a worn display module or reed switch. Both of which can be purchased on-line @ either pbparts.com or smalldog. If you are also having some wireless issues, then the issue is more likely the reed switch.

Replacing these cables involves disassembling the case and LCD....not for the technically handicapped.

There are already a few threads on this topic on the page...look around or do a search.
