Forgive the newbie-ish stupidity, but I'm fairly new to Macs, having come from the PCWorld all this time. So here's the question.. I have the 512MB built into the Aluminum Powerbook, and it seems to be working pretty well so far. But having worked in the Windows world for so long, I figure more memory is good.
I suspect there is a pretty good amount of performance to be gained by going to 1GB of memory. What about 2 GB? I found a vendor that sells 1GB PC2700 Infineon 200-pin SODIMM (CAS2.5) for $230, which makes it somewhat reasonable to jump all the way to 2GB. Then again, most vendors sell this stuff for $400, so maybe I should be suspicous.
So here's the bottom line -- is 1 GB sufficient?
I don't really use Photoshop much, but I do a lot of programming (Java, C++).
BTW -- I LOVE this baby. After opening up the laptop and putting it next to my Dell, I couldn't bring myself to use the Dell again. Unfortunately, I do have to lug it out now and again... bummer.
