my ibook might be going in for the third repair in 7 weeks... i'm waiting for one of their engineers to give me a callback. the ibook is a 700mhz 2002 model that i got new in january 2003.

has anyone here gotten apple to give them a new ibook instead of continuing to repair the old one? i heard of someone who had their 600mhz ibook in for logic board service 3 times in 3 months, so apple just sent them a (then) new 900mhz ibook.

is this type of thing true?

i have a 3 year apple care in this thing... what are my options? i'm tired of this ibook screwing up on me, losing work, losing time, and having to deal with shipping it back and forth.

thanks,
ben

I had an iBook 700mhz g3 that i bought this feb. In July I had a logicboard problem, sent it in and got it fixed. As soon as I got it back the track pad stopped working. So I took it in again and got it fixed, they reaplced the trackpad and the logicboard again. Then just last week I had the logicboard problem again, so it was taken in again to be fixed. When I got it back, the network port wasn't working and the there was a loud high pitch noise comming from the speakers everytime the iBook rebooted ot woke up from sleep. So once again i took it in and this time the tech and the genius bar (same guys thats helped me everytime i went there) said you know what i konw this must be a drag for you, so i'm just going to order you a new iBook. So i was cool i'm getting a new ibook 800g3. then this morning i got a call from the apple store tell me that they orded my ibook and that i was getting the new 800mhz G4 IBOOKS WITH SLOT LOADED DRIVE. I'm so HAPPY!!!!

It is usually O.K. to have 3 fixes on the same laptop in a year. If you get a 4th problem in a year, then it is YOUR RIGHT to request a new machine.

When I say "usually 3 fixes", I mean that sometimes the machines get a damage which it will cost more to get fixed, so Apple or other companies just replace your machine right away.
