I bought a Kingston 512 MB pc2100 memory for my 12" 1GHz powerbook. Bad news... crashes at random, Panther install crashed several times and never succeeded, etc. All is fine when I removed it.

This is the second (replacement) memory chip. It is better than the first but not great. Any similar problems out there? How did you resolve them? Does PC2700 memory fit in a 2100 slot? Any heavy-duty memory test utilities out there?

Thanks.

PC2700 memory would fit but is not required in the 12" PB. It just seems like you've been unlucky with RAM. Get a replacement SO-DIMM that is not Kingston and see how you do.

I installed a PC2700 512 Mb chip in my 12" DVI in early October, just after I got it, and immediately had the 'wake-from-sleep' kernel panics that are all the rage right now. So, the PC2700's are not immune to this problem. I've got a replacement on the way - hopefully this one will fare better!
