I got back from Fry's tonight with a copy of the Family Pack 5-user OS 10.3. The first computer to get the upgrade was our Pismo 500. It has a 30 gig 4200 HD, 1024 mb of ram and is pretty much still a flawless machine.

I'm impressed with the results. So far I've surfed the web with airport and played with two programs, Word for X and InDesign 2.0. Both titles were considerably faster. Next to the Powerbook 12in and DVI 667.

Same in my Pismo, I have not tried Office v.X yet, I think 'faster' is not hard to achieve.

I loved my pismo.. that thing was a tank.

You know you can hot swap the batteries if you put it to sleep?

Okay. I installed Panther. Awesome and full of cool stuff. BUT my dual-ethernet Airport failed to work. It was working perfectly with Jaguar and when I booted into OS 9 it works beautifully. But it doesn't seem to like Panther. I'm using a Pismo (PB G3 FW). I downloaded and installed the new Airport utility that was posted on 10/27. Still no luck. The error in "network" is that the airport is connected but cannot find or get an IP Address, and has a yellow dot. Really weird. I tried all sorts of things, the assistant, internet connect to turn off and on, disconnecting the power, etc. Also, since I installed OS X, when I go to the airport utility, 99 out of 100 times, it never finds my base station. And when it does, it doesn't like the password. The error here says it cannot read the configuration. the firmware installed is 4.07. I understand the latest is 4.08. In the past I've been able to upload the firmware my resetting the passord, which turns into "public" for 5 minutes. But this time, resetting doesn't work. I still get "cannot read configuration" so I can't upload the newest firmware.

Has anyone had this problem, and if so, knows what to do? HELP! thanks!

You can do that with any PowerBook.

I hate to say that, but it doesn't work in the powerbook 12". And i think apple should make it work in the 12" because it is a pro feature.

With Panther on my Pismo 400, running next to my TiBook, I don't mind having to run things on the Pismo anymore (except for missing the right-side Apple-key).
Panther makes it a real Mac again!
