I initially used the iKlear Apple Polish Singles to try and clean my screen (17" RevA), but it left streaks all across the screen (even after I dried it off.)

When I emailed Meridrew, they said to polish it off more carefully. So, I cleaned again (after more dust had accumulated) and took great care to consistently buff the streaked areas off.

But, the streaks didn't come off...what gives?

Any ideas on how to remove the streaks?

Lightly moisten a fresh second polishing cloth with a first wet cleaner cloth (just to get barely dampened) and then gently buff out the streaks with the screen dark and at an angle to a light to see the removal progress. Keep rotating the cloth to new areas.

that didn't work for me
i had the same problem
here's MY solution
keep the lighting such that I CAN'T SEE THE STREAKS !!!!!!!!!!

the IKLEAR was bad stuff
didn't work as advertised
i hear that a clean, lint-free cloth and plain bottled water will do a much better job

i'll try that one next
when/if i ever clean the screen again

I've used iKlear on four Powerbook LCD's without issues. It may take several cleaning cycles to remove the skin oils that contacted the LCD when closed. That's what causes the streaking.

Same process using lens tissues and lens cleaners on photo optics. Trying to remove a huge fingerprint takes numerous attempts, with the first cleanings looking much worse, with the entire lens looking ruined.

Be patient and persistent and your screen will end up looking new in the end. At first, you’re spreading the oils around, then they get lifted off with progressive steps. It might take 3 or 4 kits the very first cleaning.

also make sure the screen is not warm. if it's warm, the iklear will streak.

i second everyone else, it will take about 3 cleanings before you can get everything off then once a week keeps it like new.

My suggestion...use glass cleaner (with a soft cotton cloth like a handkerchief) once in awhile if the skin oil seems persistent. For regular cleanings, use water and vinegar, mixed about 8:1 in a spray bottle. Works great, and doesn't streak.

1200 grit sand paper! Just kidding. Really. In reference to the use of glass cleaner, in my experience it will eventually take off the anit-glare film over the lcd. Found out the hard way with a Pismo. Over time, a slight mottling began to appear - these were holes eaten through the film.

I would recommend a microfiber cloth. Drop the brightness all the way down on the screen so you can see the streaks. Apply a little hot breath, and buff with the microfiber. I personally use a Kensington cloth (2 for five bucks) They are also the perfect size for screen protector. I place mine on the keyboard before closing the screen for transport.
