ANybody try the non-apple batteries that you can buy off of eBay yet? I think they're substantially cheaper, so I'm just wondering if anybody's had an experience with this.

I'm looking for an old ibook anyways, with more problems than just this, so I didn't want to spend too much to fix its problems . . .

My advice; don't waste your money on a battery from anyone on eBay. Many of them could well turn out to be old batteries that are nearing the end of their lifecycle. They don't last forever, and I would be very suspicious of anyone's motives for selling an old laptop battery on eBay - or anywhere else for that matter.

I bought a battery off eBay for my old clamshell. It was advertised as new. I received it and the iBook wouldn't even recognize that it was installed. I retuned it for a total of three times. None of them would hold a charge. That is the last time I ever try to buy a battery off eBay. Good thing the seller gave me a refund.

Sorry guys, maybe i need to be more clear. These are not used batteries. They're new, but not manufactured by Apple. Anybody tried these out yet? The apple batteries are $200 Canadian.

What's the difference in $ between them and the Apple battery? If it's less than 10% or so, I'd just get the Apple battery and know that I won't have to worry about it.

These batteries are about $120 CDN. Hence my dilemma.

Ah - okay! Is that including shipping and all taxes?

If so, then it could be worth trying them - but may be worth clarifying their returns policy beforehand, just in case... If not, then I'd say maybe not worth the gamble; is it going to fit and 'look' as good as an Apple battery? (Nevermind whether or not it'll perform as well as an Apple battery.)

Just bought one of the NEW replacement batteries off of e-bay.

It was $90.

I'll keep you posted as to how it performs. Think the apple store wanted $140, so if it works well, that's a good amount of savings.

I wouldn't buy any used ibook batteries off of ebay...
