I just bought my PB 17 on Oct 3, do I qualify for the upgrade to Panther?
Where on the Apple site do I go to see if I can get it?

Nope, unfortunately you don't for the 'free' upgrade... You had to have bought after the 8th October.

However if you go to the apple 'up to date' site and enter your machine serial number, you may have some luck...

Lots of people who like you bought PBs before the 8th, found that they qualified through the website anyway...

If you do a search, you should find some long and informative threads detailing this...

Peace,

Marc

it depends on the meaning of "bought". If it was invoiced after the 8th, you should qualify. Here is what I received from the Apple store:

Since your order invoiced after the announcement date of October 8, 2003, you are eligible for the Panther Up-To-Date program. Complete details are available at www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/
Thank you for taking the time to write to the Apple Store.

yeah it depends... I know some people who ordered 12" PBs on Aug 16th and got the models that qualify for the update. However I ordered mine on the 26th and did not get the new model that qualifies for the update. Don't ask me how that works, I have no idea. Maybe Apple put the new models in the store for a short time mid-August and then took them down again till the beginning of October.

The listing of qualifying models is on the Up-to-Date website if you wanna check, or you can just try putting your serial number in the link they give.

I bought mine on Sept 16 and I qualified. Register your machine on Apple's site, wait a day, then try the up to date page. It should work.
