So I had my powerbook for a little bit over 3 weeks, and I love it! By week 2 I noticed a whitespot.. then a week after that more white spots appeared and the original one got larger and a bit brighter... thats okay..

I'm not mad at all, this stuff happens, other then that my powerbook is perfect except for the little harddrive squeaks when in High Preformance mode (anyone know if this is normal)

So I called Apple and told them the situation and they gave me phone numbers of some repair shops in the city (Toronto), I go to Computer Systems Center show them my powerbook and they go ahead and ordered the new screen.. 3 days later the screen comes in and I bring in the laptop and they replaced it with a nice brand new so far perfect screen...

One thing I did noticed.. and dont know if this appeard on the previous screen is that if you have a bright lightsource on the back of the open screen with the computer off you can actually see a shadow of the apple logo from the back appear on the screen.

Even if white spots appear on the new screen agian, I dont care, This is an awesome machine and I'm loving panther and I'll just go and get another screen after that..

If other people are having sucessul repairs post them so others won't feel as bad when they do get the white spots.

Also I was afraid i was going to get a screen with dead pixels, but nope, its perfect... funny my old screen had one dead pixel so I guess I lucked out.

picked mine up from the apple store about an hour ago. it went in for the screen two business weeks ago.

i immediately turned it on and checked for white spots and dead pixels. there were none. the new screen is a samsung.

my machine also needed a new logic board. seems to work perfectly.

the final bit was a new display housing. the fellow who helped me at the apple store speculated that it may have been damaged / scratched during the repair. i'm wondering if they didn't have to alter the housing to fix the white spot problem.

i must say the all the apple folks – at the store and on the phone – were great. very professional and courteous. the only negative was the fact that it took two weeks to get my machine back.

all's well in the end.

Whoa! Two major replacements in such a short time. One benefit though: after your next major parts replacement, you have a strong case for a full computer replacement...Just keep in mind. The friendly folks at Apple Canada replaced my Ti667DVI with a Ti867 just days before the original warranty expired.
